Gender-transformative work is essential for preventing violence at its root, shifting the rigid gender norms and power inequities that sustain it rather than only treating its harms. This study investigates how locally held ideas of masculinity in Rakai, Uganda are linked to men’s use of intimate partner violence, surfacing the beliefs and practices that programs must engage with if behaviour change is to be durable and community-led.
